Creating notes and using note templates

To create a new board note, simply click on the icon on the left sidebar, near the “BOARD“ or “PRIVATE“ labels. This opens a small popup window where you can choose to create a new empty note and also be able to create note from predefined note templates.

To create card notes, open any card on your Trello board, locate the "Notes" section and click Add note to generate a new empty note. Alternatively, you can choose Start with a template to craft a new note using a predefined template.

Note templates

By using templates, you can save time and maintain consistency across your documentation. Use one of our predefined and customizable note templates to jump-start your documentation process or create your own templates tailored to your unique requirements.

Creating note templates

Creating templates is simple and straightforward. Choose Create new note template in the "Create note…" popup or simply convert your existing note to a note template. The "Convert to note template" option is available in the ... menu of a note, located in the upper-right corner. Please note that this option is available only for root notes, and cannot be used for sub-notes. Nevertheless, it is possible to create note templates that include sub-notes as well.

Template placeholders

As the name implies, you can create placeholders in your text with the help of this feature. This is especially useful in note templates. Using placeholders, users can quickly fill in specific details in notes. It is also worth mentioning that the date element can be configured as a placeholder for the current date as well. The placeholder formatting mark is available in the text selection toolbar, and the date element is available in the / slash commands menu.
